Student Evaluation & Grading

We recognize the need for accountability for our students as well as assessment assistance to parents and students at the upper school level. Toward that end, our Patrick Henry College interns provide the feedback that parents and students need. Final grade assignment will still be at the discretion of the parent at home; our goal is to ensure that you have the necessary input to help you with that task. To compensate our interns for this service, a grading fee is required for each of the courses below (in addition to the registration fee).

Humanities II – This class requires evaluation of homework, papers, and presentations. Our PHC intern will keep weekly records of completed assignments and provide regular feedback directly to the students and parents. This will include evaluation of reading journals, commonplace books, commonplace declamations, memory work recitations, class participation, presentations, and one to two essays per academic year. Although this can be done primarily via our class page and online tools, additional meetings and/or phone conversations during the week may be required.

Poetics & Progym I, II, III, and Rhetoric & Logic – These classes require mentoring and feedback on compositions as well as accountability for written exercises. Although this can be done primarily via our class page and online tools, additional meetings and/or phone conversations during the week may be required.

Latin I, II, and III – These classes require homework evaluation along with the grading of quizzes and tests. Our reason for doing this is that we have found that it is extremely difficult for parents who are not proficient in Latin to grade these assignments at the higher levels.
